Seven folks and three dogs made the 5+ mile, 2 hour hike on the Lower Big Quilcene River Trail this morning. It was the perfect weather day to be on the trail...cool but dry. The trail was in great condition with a few small, but challenging, hills. We made a pit stop half way at the Bark Shanty campground & made our way down to the river to soak our feet in the cool water. Well, only Winston dipped his paws into the cold, rushing water, but we all admired its beauty.
After the hike we made another quick pit stop at Rocky Brook Falls on the drive home. This is a hidden gem just 3 miles off the main highway. A short jaunt brings you to a pretty impressive waterfall. We're not sure how tall it is, but were guessing somewhere between 80 and 100 feet. A great end to a fun hiking day!

We passed several small waterfalls. |

We didn't see any Rhodys blooming on the trail, but there were plenty of other pretty flowers in bloom. |
