Today 6 of us went snowshoeing at Lake Keechelus in the Snoqualmie Pass/Hyak area. We lucked out and had good road conditions, which was a nice surprise. We arrived at 8:30 and were on the trail by 9:00 am. I still think the hardest part of snowshoeing is getting those darn things on! We loved the heated bathrooms...especially since the wind was blowing and it felt really, really cold. Luckily, once we got onto the trail, the trees blocked the wind for the most part.
The trail was groomed & relatively flat. We walked about an hour before turning around. We couldn't figure out how to get down to the lake. On the way back we realized we should have taken one of the offshoot trails that said "snowshoe trail", which was not all that helpful as it didn't give any information as to where it was going. Now we know, though, if we ever go back. We still got pretty views of the lake. Once we turned around the snow started coming down in earnest. We timed it perfectly. In all I think we covered about 4 miles.

The trail is part of the Iron Horse Trail which was once a railway. |

Michele forgot her snowshoes, but luckily the ground was pretty firm and she did fine without them. |
