Skookum Flats Hike

We hiked the Skookum Flats trail on Saturday morning.  Even though the forecast called for rain, it ended up being dry with some blue sky peaking out, which made the hike so much more enjoyable.  Teresa, Pam and I got to the trail head at 9:03am.  We were glad to find there was a bathroom there, as the WTA didn't mention there being one, but it was so dirty none of us used it.  We waited a little while for Michele & James, who had driven separately.  Luckily Pam's cell phone had coverage at the trail head, and we were able to call them & ascertain that they were quite a bit behind us.  Since they told us not to wait, we headed out on the trail.  The trail was about 4 miles round trip, meandering along the beautiful White River with very little elevation gain.  We found lots of vegetation along with a family of chipmunks and a slug.  Oh, and I forgot to mention, we saw some Elk along the highway on our drive to the trail.  We ended up meeting Michele & James later on our way back out and their way in.  We had ended our hike when we found some falls which we assumed was Skookum Falls.  They ended up venturing even further than we did and found the actual Skookum Falls.  Not sure what falls we were looking at?  Luckily Michele took a couple of photos of the falls for us.  I will have to come back again some time and find the falls for myself!

Funny picture!  We all saw elk at this spot, but only Michele & James were fast enough to get a picture.

I was the tree hugger this time.

The sun!

This is where we turned around (too soon).

We thought this was the falls!

Hard to tell, but it was about 250 feet high.

Pam and I tried to climb up a little ways for a better look, but it was a bit slippery.

The actual Skookum Falls...pretty!
