Horsetail Falls and Vista House

Six of us and Winston traveled down to the Columbia River Gorge to hike at Horsetail Falls this morning.  We left bright and early because the day was set to reach a scorching 95 degrees!  After a bit of a delay (we had to hike about a half mile down the road to find a bathroom since there was not one at the trailhead), we started on the trail a few minutes before 10am.  It was already heating up, and our upward climb did not help cool us down.  Luckily, the trail was mostly shaded, and after about 6 switchbacks, it finally started leveling out.  We saw Ponytail Falls first, which really did look like a ponytail.  The trail wound its way below some massive rocks and behind the falls.  It was gorgeous!  After that we crossed a somewhat precarious bridge to view Lower Oneonta Falls before looping back to the trailhead.  We saw lots of gorgeous views of the gorge.  Afterwards we made a pit stop at the Vista House at Crown Point for more amazing views.  It was a great day!

Warning: tons of pictures ahead!

Horsetail Falls was right across from where we parked.

We hiked to Oneonta Trail and then looped back, approx. 2.6 miles.

At the start...it was all uphill for a while.

Winston refused to walk over the bridge...so Corey carried him.
